The 2015 theme of this year鈥檚 IDW week is 鈥淲e Make a Difference.鈥 Join the campus community in learning about how 91探花 students, staff, and faculty make a difference through their work and studies, and how you can make a difference abroad or in your community. 91探花 students Jayoda Tennekone, and Rhyanne Beatty will host the second set of presentations in the Brown Bag Lunch Series, on Tuesday, February 3 at 11:30 am in the Faculty Lounge, SDU Main Building.
Jayoda Tennekone's presentation is titled "Improving International Relations in Your Own Community: Learning From the Diverse People Around you," and will be followed by Rhyanne Beatty's presentation titled 鈥淗ow to make a difference through the study of languages.鈥

The Department of Pathology and Microbiology has two candidates for Adjunct Graduate Faculty who will be presenting on Friday, January 30, 2015 at 10:30 and 11:15 am in room 287N, AVC McCain Learning Commons.
The first candidate is Huimin Xu, Research Scientist, with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. His seminar is titled "Regulatory Testing of Potato Viruses - Situation Today and Future Development." His seminar will start at 10:30 am.
The second candidate is Tiago Hori, Post Doctoral Fellow, with the Center for Aquaculture Technologies Canada. His seminar is titled "Bioinformatics: Powering Discovery From Genomics Data" and will follow at 11:15 am.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
Research on Tap returns for its sixth season of public discussion, debate, and ideas presented by researchers from the 91探花. Join our next conversation on Monday, February 2 at 7 pm at the Haviland Club in Charlottetown. Dr. John McIntyre, an associate professor in the department of English, will lead a discussion entitled: "Beyond Flanders Fields: Representing the Great War in Literature and Culture."
The 2014/2015 season of Research on Tap is presented in cooperation with the Royal Society of Canada (RSC), Atlantic Chapter. The RSC is Canada鈥檚 national academy and is the senior national body of distinguished scholars, artists, and scientists.
Research on Tap meets the first Monday of every month from October to April. The full schedule of speakers can be found at upei.ca/research/research-on-tap.

The AAU's Aboriginal Education Committee is hosting a regional conference focused on "Best Practices in Aboriginal Post-secondary Education." The Conference is organized around three streams:
1. Student Leadership and Campus Involvement
2. Innovation in Aboriginal Programming and Pedagogy
3. Innovative Practices in Aboriginal Student Support and Advisement
The conference will be hosted by Mount Saint Vincent University on March 9 and 10, 2015. It has received generous support from the governments of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island and the federal department of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development.
We are encouraging members of the communities, university faculty, university/secondary students, student/aboriginal services professionals, Education Directors and Elders to attend.

After 35 years of service to the 91探花, Dr. Philip G. Davis retired this month. Please join the Department of Religious Studies in extending our warm wishes for his well-deserved retirement at a reception in his honour. Refreshments will be served. Join Dr. Carolyn Peach Brown and Dr. Donald Wagner for the first set of presentations in the series, on Monday, February 2 at 11:30 am in the Faculty Lounge, SDU Main Building.
Dr. Peach Brown鈥檚 presentation is titled 鈥淔orests, People and Development in Cameroon,鈥 and will discuss the role of local institutions and community forest management in the Congo Basin forest of Cameroon.
Dr. Wagner鈥檚 presentation is titled 鈥淢icrofinance in Uganda and South Africa,鈥 and will explore how microfinance is used as an economic development tool in Uganda and South Africa. The presentation will look both at some of the successes and challenges.

Novelist Craig Davidson is three people. As Davidson, he is the author of 鈥淐ataract City鈥, a successful literary novel, and Rust and Bone, made into a film that premiered at the Cannes Festival. As Nick Cutter and Patrick Lestweka, he鈥檚 a popular horror writer praised by Stephen King and Clive Barker.
Davidson will read from his fiction on Thursday, February 12, at 7:30 pm in Confederation Centre Art Gallery. His reading is sponsored by the 91探花 English Department, with support from The Canada Council for the Arts. A book signing will follow.
Chartwells is offering a "buy one get one" meal deal at the Wanda Wyatt Dining Hall until January 31. All you need to do is visit their website and show the coupon using a mobile device or a printed coupon during your next visit. You will pay the door price for one meal but your guest will eat for free.
Free aerobic fitness tests will be offered on the afternoons of February 10 (2:30-4:00pm) and February 13 (1:30-3:00pm). The tests will be overseen by students in KINE 343 (under the supervision of a Certified Exercise Physiologist) and will involve walking or riding a bike at sub-maximal intensities (50-85% of max effort). Volunteers will be provided with the results on their aerobic fitness at the end of the test.
Anyone interested in participating should contact Travis Saunders (trsaunders@upei.ca) to sign up.
Dr. Megan MacLellan will interview for the open, tenure-track faculty position in radiology & diagnostic imaging in the Department of Companion Animals at the Atlantic Veterinary College. Dr. MacLellan graduated from AVC in 2011; completed an internship at Tufts Veterinary Emergency & Treatment Specialists and is now completing a Medical Imaging Residency program at the University of Minnesota.
As part of the interview process, Dr. MacLellan has been asked to present a 50-minute lecture suitable for 3rd year DVM students on Friday, January 30 at 12:30 pm in AVC, Lecture Theatre A. Any interested faculty and staff are invited to attend. A copy of her CV and letter of application will be available from Laurel Fisher (fisher@upei.ca) in the Department of Companion Animals.
