The 2015 theme of this year鈥檚 IDW week is 鈥淲e Make a Difference.鈥 Join the campus community in learning about how 91探花 students, staff, and faculty make a difference through their work and studies, and how you can make a difference abroad or in your community. Join Dr. Carolyn Peach Brown and Dr. Donald Wagner for the first set of presentations in the series, on Monday, February 2 at 11:30 am in the Faculty Lounge, SDU Main Building. Dr. Peach Brown鈥檚 presentation is titled 鈥淔orests, People and Development in Cameroon,鈥 and will discuss the role of local institutions and community forest management in the Congo Basin forest of Cameroon. Dr. Wagner鈥檚 presentation is titled 鈥淢icrofinance in Uganda and South Africa,鈥 and will explore how microfinance is used as an economic development tool in Uganda and South Africa. The presentation will look both at some of the successes and challenges. Light refreshments will be provided, and a door prize will be given out to one lucky attendee!

Reserve your tickets today for "Desserts and a Difference," this year's keynote event for the 2015 International Development Week celebrations! Dr. Timothy Goddard, will present this year鈥檚 keynote presentation entitled 鈥淭he quest for Buen Vivir: For whom are we making a difference, and why?鈥 which will reflect on the idea of international development and examine some of the ways in which local communities can assume agency for their own future. Presentation to be followed by a dessert reception, featuring instrumental music from 91探花 International student, Jacob Liu, and door prize draw! Reserve your tickets today by visiting upei.ca/idw. Admission is by donation at the door. All proceeds for the event will go to the Nichola Goddard Foundation ().

The Dr. Frances Gray Music Performance Competition 2015 Finals concert will be held Thursday, January 22 at the Dr. Steel Recital Hall, at 7:30 pm. This annual competition was recently renamed in honour of Dr. Gray鈥檚 retirement from the 91探花 Music Department. The six students chosen from the preliminary round to perform in the finals are: Rebecca Apps, soprano; Jillian Clow, mezzo soprano; Leah Inman, piano; Lucas MacPhail, alto saxophone; Kailey Norris, clarinet and Hannah Rollwage, mezzo soprano. Judges for the competition are well-known PEI musicians and educators: Reg Ballagh, Peter Bevan Baker, Ken Fornetran, Karen Graves and Anne White. 91探花 will be celebrating its fourteenth annual International Development Week (IDW), February 2-6, 2015. IDW is a national event held each year to increase awareness of Canada鈥檚 role in international development. The events also serve to educate the general public on life in developing countries. The 2015 theme of this year鈥檚 week is 鈥淲e Make a Difference,鈥 and will include events such as: brown bag lunch series, an international coffee house, international trivia and 鈥淒esserts and a Difference鈥 featuring a keynote presentation from Dr. Timothy Goddard. The Department of Pathology and Microbiology invites you to attend seminars by Dr. Ashutosh Verma, Research Scientist, Trudeau Institute, Saranac Lake, NY on January 26 and January 27, 2015. Dr. Verma is a candidate for a tenure track Clinical Bacteriologist position, Competition #18A14. His teaching seminar will be at 10:30 am on Monday, January 26 in AVC, Lecture Theatre A, and is titled "Lyme disease in Animals." His diagnostic seminar will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 in AVC-C and is titled "Evolution of Clinical Microbiology - Are we there yet?" Everyone is welcome.
