"Desserts and a Difference," this year's keynote event for the 2015 International Development Week celebrations is rescheduled to tomorrow, Friday, February 6 at 2:30 pm in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre.

Ori Elad, Department of Pathology and Microbiology will present a seminar called "Nutritional epigenetic characterization of chicken B cell receptors and Alyssa Grunwald, Department of Biomedical Sciences will present a seminar called "Discovery of tetramic acid containing compounds from two Tolypocladium sp. isolated from Frobisher Bay" on Tuesday, February 10 at 3:00 pm in AVC Lecture Theatre C. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Chinese Embassy in Ottawa is offering a number of Chinese government scholarships to Canadian students who wish to continue their post-secondary education in China, for long or short term study. Dr. Johanna Wolf, Associate Professor for the School of Environment and Sustainability at Royal Roads University, British Columbia, is a candidate for 91探花's new Canada Research Chair in Sustainability, Resilience, and Island Contexts. Dr. Wolf will make two presentations, both of which will be open to the campus and research communities. A general presentation, entitled 鈥淏etter off or Worse for Wear: Sustainability and Resilience Through Climate Adaptation," will take place on February 9, 10:30鈥�11:30 am in AVC Lecture Theatre A. A technical presentation, entitled 鈥淐onnect, Collaborate, Co-produce: Shaping Climate Change Adaptation to Foster Island Resilience and Sustainability," will take place on February 10, 2:00鈥�3:00 pm, in AVC Lecture Theatre A. The Atlantic Council for International Cooperation will host the fourth presentation in the International Development Week Brown Bag Lunch Series, on Thursday, February 5 at 12:00 pm in The Wave, W.A. Murphy Student Centre. The presentation is titled "Opportunities to be a Global Village," and will explore the role of international development and international development organizations within Canadian contexts and how students can become involved locally. 91探花 Athletics and Recreation will host the eighth annual Shoot for the Cure fundraiser on Friday, February 6 with a series of activities leading up to, and during, the 91探花 women鈥檚 basketball game starting at 6:00 pm versus the Acadia Axewomen. Shoot for the Cure is a fundraising initiative by the CIS Women鈥檚 Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) to raise money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) and other related charities. The campaign goal is $6,000. Staff and faculty can support the women鈥檚 basketball team by purchasing a Shoot for the Cure t-shirt ($12) at Panther Central or the 91探花 Bookstore, a paper icon ($1) from Panther Central, or through the 鈥淕ofund鈥� donation page at: . Fundraising efforts at the women鈥檚 basketball game include a bake sale, 50/50, and 鈥渃huck a puck.鈥� In support of the 91探花 women's basketball team, the 91探花 hockey women will host their second annual "Pink at the Rink," tonight versus the UdeM Blue Eagles, at 7:00 pm.

A search committee for the Dean of Nursing has been established. Dr. Rosemary Herbert has expressed a willingness to extend her term as Dean for an additional three years, as per 91探花 policy. Therefore, the Search Committee is charged with carrying out a review and making a recommendation regarding her reappointment. In order to carry out that review effectively, the Committee will be seeking input from members of the University community. In particular, we would like you to provide us with advice with respect to Dr. Herbert's reappointment in three main areas: (1) her leadership, (2) her strengths as a Dean, and (3) areas for possible improvement. Due to the storm closure, the International Coffee House originally set for Tuesday evening as part of 91探花's International Development Week has been rescheduled to Wednesday, February 4 in combination with Games and Karaoke Night. Both events will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Campus Life Lounge in the W.A. Murphy Student Centre (second floor, above the 91探花 Bookstore).

The 91探花 Charity Club invites the campus community to the showing of 鈥淩yan鈥檚 Well鈥� on Wednesday, February 4 from 2:00鈥�3:30 pm in K.C. Irving Chemistry Centre, room 104, in celebration of 91探花's International Development Week. "Ryan's Well" is an inspirational story about a boy who was determined to make a difference in the lives of the people living Angolo, Uganda. Through Ryan Hreljac鈥檚 fundraising efforts, thousands of dollars were raised to build a well for the village. This documentary follows Ryan鈥檚 story from his first conversations with his Ugandan pen pal to the day he visited Angoloand saw the well for the first time. Refreshments will be provided!
