Engineering Spotlights
Our Engineering Spotlights feature the amazing students, faculty, and staff of 91̽»¨'s Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering.
Meet Berry, 91̽»¨ Sustainable Design Engineering student and 3M National Student Fellow.
Sustainable Design Engineering students Ben Keizer, Tung Nguyen, SoumyaDeep Chowdhury, and Luke McCarvill and their TrashTech project centres around developing a reduction-focused domestic waste management product. It aims to conduct waste classification using machine vision, weight sensing, and meaningful data communication to users through a web application, much like Fitbit’s functionality and related smartphone application.
Sustainable Design Engineering student team members Lauren Daigle, Christian D'Entremont, Ben MacEachern, Josh McIsaac, and Owen Stewart worked with Parks Canada to design of a user-friendly display for the electric pedestals at campsites to inform campers of their energy consumption.
Student team members Remi Antoun, James Campbell, Chukwuma "Prince" Ezeilo, and Huy "Alvin" Nguyen worked with the Abegweit First Nation to solve the ongoing challenge of transforming wind-damaged forests into productive blueberry crops while safeguarding the suitability of the land for wild blueberry cultivation.
Meet the student associates of the 91̽»¨ Engineering Success Centre, and find out how they're building leadership skills helping their peers and friends!
"Sometimes I do get weird and special requests from all sorts of people as we build all sorts of machines and prototypes—that's what makes my job so unique."
An assistant professor in 91̽»¨'s Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering, Dr. Shaw's research focuses on resource consumption, energy, and emissions.
Meet Rosaline, 91̽»¨ Bachelor of Sustainable Design Engineering student. Originally from Damascus, Rosaline hopes to work in the sustainable energy sector and obtain a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
Meet Yvan, Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Design Engineering graduate (Class of 2023). Originally from Mauritius, Yvan had always wanted to come to Canada for university, and discovered 91̽»¨'s Engineering program was a perfect match.
"Overall, my drive to graduate and continue to elevate my education comes from my passion for helping people in the most impactful way possible."
