Open Class Day will be taking place Friday, March 6 from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm (Storm Date March 20). Visiting high school students will have the opportunity to attend sample lectures and sessions throughout the day in various areas of arts, business and science. Incoming first year students will also have the opportunity to register for classes in the afternoon. We know this can be overwhelming for students, so we ask faculty and staff to be there to support students during this time of transition. To facilitate this, we are inviting faculty and staff to join us at any time through out the day, particularly during the registration sessions from 12:30 - 4:30 pm. View the schedule here:. Watch and discuss slam poetry (competition where people read their poems without props, costumes, or music) online on Wednesday, March 11 from 2:30-4:00 pm in the Campus Life Lounge, Student Affairs, W.A. Murphy Student Centre. Discover how this art form can be used to talk about mental health. All are welcome to attend.

Staff and faculty are invited to be a twitter champion during 91̽»¨'s Mental Health Week, March 9-13. Champions are provided with clear instructions, support materials and information and resources. The commitment requested is to post at least one tweet per day, for each day of mental health week. Last year we had over 150 people tweeting and we generated over 750 tweets. It all started with a core of champions from students, faculty and staff. Help us get the word out. Starting on Friday March 6, at 12:30 pm in SDU Main Building, room 520 (Dawson Lounge), and going until Saturday at 5:30pm; the full program is available online at . Help us kick-off Mental Health Week with a keynote presentation entitled: Our Story, by Mr. Darin Meek, on Monday, March 9 at 1:30 pm in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Cenre. Stick around for an exciting announcement from the 91̽»¨ Student Union! Darin’s daughter, Chalyce, would have been a third-year university student this year had she not lost her battle with anxiety and depression. On January 13, 2012 Chalyce took her own life at the age of 17. Listen to her family’s story and how they, through support of each other and support from family, friends, and the community, have moved forward. Darin’s inspirational story will show us all how we can help one another in making our Island community a healthier and more supportive environment by taking action in addressing mental health issues and breaking down the stigma. This event is free for 91̽»¨ students, staff, and faculty. Complimentary refreshments will be provided.

Research on Tap returns for its sixth season of public discussion, debate, and ideas presented by researchers from the 91̽»¨. Join our next conversation TONIGHT, Monday, March 2 at 7 pm, at the Haviland Club in Charlottetown. Dr. Neb Kujundzic, associate professor of philosophy and dean of the Faculty of Arts, will lead a discussion entitled: What good is a university degree? The 2014/2015 season of Research on Tap is presented in cooperation with the Royal Society of Canada (RSC), Atlantic Chapter. The RSC is Canada’s national academy and is the senior national body of distinguished scholars, artists, and scientists. Research on Tap meets the first Monday of every month from October to April.

When collaboration successfully occurs in the workplace, you feel positive, productive, and willing to face any challenge. This session will teach the key elements of teamwork and provide the opportunity to practice collaboration-building techniques. This session offers helpful strategies to: *Understand emotional reactions and what their underlying causes may be. *Discuss human motivators and ways to address them for increases collaboration. *Identify relationship-building strategies. The event is organized by the Graduate Students’ Association and Dr. Brian Wagner, Faculty of Science. It will begin with a 30-minute presentation by Dr. Wagner, followed by open discussion. All are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served.
