Echo Lau's senior piano recital will be held on Sunday, March 24 at 2:30 pm at 91探花's Steel Recital Hall. The program will include Chopin's Sonata no.3 in B minor, Debussy's L鈥檌sle Joyeuse, and Ravel's Concerto in G, accompanied by Dr. Frances Gray. Echo was born in Hong Kong and moved to PEI with her parents in 2004. She studied piano with Frances McBurnie throughout her high school years and is now studying with Dr. Frances Gray at 91探花. Echo has represented PEI in the National Music Festival and has twice been awarded the Rose Bowl at the PEI Kiwanis Music Festival. Echo has played violin with the PEI Symphony and is a member of the 91探花 Jazz Ensemble. Admission is free. For information, contact music@upei.ca or 566-0507.
On Thursday, March 21 at 7:30 pm the 91探花 Department of Music presents 鈥淪ing me a Story鈥 featuring third-year students Nadine Haddad, soprano, and Morgan Wagner, soprano, assisted by Frances McBurnie, piano. The recital will include works by J. S. Bach, Enrique Granados, Henry Purcell, Richard Strauss, Gioacchino Rossini, Antonio Vivaldi, and Hugo Wolf, as well as traditional and jazz selections. After months of preparation, Nadine and Morgan look forward to sharing many stories in song. The performance takes place in the Dr. Steel Recital Hall, 91探花 and admission is free. Hill, Ph.D. "Bacterial Symbionts in Marine Sponges: Signaling and Other Interactions" Date: Friday, March 15 Time: 10:30 am Location: The McCain Foundation Learning Commons (287 North), AVC Dr. Hill completed his Ph.D. at the University of Cape Town and post-doctoral studies with Rita Colewell at the Center of Marine Biotechnology, University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute. His current position is director and professor at the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology, University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science. He studies the diversity and functions of microbes associated with marine invertebrates. His research interests include the biodiversity of marine microbes and the potential of marine microbes as sources of new drugs, in particular the role of microbial symbionts in production of important bioactive compounds. He also has an interest in marine microalgae and associated bacteria as a source of biofuel. Everyone welcome!
