The 2014 Grad Week Committee is looking for nominations for the following awards and positions, all nominees must be graduating. Just send the name of the person you are nominating to vpactivities@upeisu.ca with a brief description on why they deserve the award. Nominations will be accepted until noon on Friday, March 14. The Owen MacDonald Memorial Award - Awarded by the Senior Class of 鈥70 and succeeding Senior Classes This award is presented to a graduating student for excellence and the outstanding contribution to the Senior Class in his/her final year of study. The Crescam Serviendo Award (May I Grow By Serving) - Dedicated by Class of 鈥72 This award is presented to both a male and a female member of the Senior Class who has contributed most to the life of the University during their years attending 91探花. The Class of 98 Leadership Award 鈥 Established by the Senior Class of 鈥98 This award is presented to a graduating student who has demonstrated leadership and has made a considerable contribution to Campus Life, particularly to the Senior Class. The Senior Class Spirit Award This award goes to someone who really exemplifies 91探花 pride. This is for someone who has taken pride in 91探花 during his or her years of attendance, and who shows and overall love for the 91探花 spirit. Life Executive Awards The Life Executive will be responsible for the affairs of the Class of 2014, including maintaining communications with the Class of 2014 as trust officers of Class funds, and as a liaison between Alumni and the Class of 2014. The Life Executive will also have the authority to appoint replacements when and if needed. -Life Executive President for the Senior Class of 2014 -Life Executive Vice-President for the Senior Class of 2014 -Life Executive Secretary for the Senior Class of 2014 -Life Executive Treasurer for the Senior Class of 2014

The deadline for Animal Care Protocol Submissions -- new, renewal, or amendments -- is Friday, April 4 for the April meeting. Ensure you always download the current forms from and use the most current Adobe Reader to complete forms. Only current forms will be accepted. Both the signed hard copy and electronic protocol submission must be submitted by the deadline date. 鈭 Submit one copy of original protocol with signature to AVC - Annex, Biomedical Sciences Dept., Rm 2302. 鈭 Submit an electronic copy to animalcare@upei.ca Those protocols received after the deadline will be reviewed the following month. On April 15, 9-11 am, and April 16 1:30-3:30 pm, Workplace Safety Inspections sessions will take place in the Robertson Library, room 235. In this seminar, participants will learn ways to prepare, inspect, report, and follow up on workplace hazards. The workshop uses group and individual activities involving common hazard scenarios and sample forms to guide you along in your next workplace safety inspection. 91探花 will host its second annual Mental Health Week March 10-14. An initiative by Student Affairs and supported by the Canadian Mental Health Association (PEI division), the week showcases a series of events designed to educate and encourage action among 91探花 students, staff, and faculty while building a culture of care. Events this year include: 91探花's first TEDxTalk; guest lecture by Frank Warren from PostSecret; visits from the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program, and more! All events are free to attend. Our choir encourages both experienced singers and new singing enthusiasts to join us in sharing world music and songs from different countries and cultures. Now in its third year, the choir was initiated through the AIRS Project. This semester, our rehearsals are held Tuesday afternoons from 4:30-5:30 pm at the Chaplaincy Centre. All are welcome! Cheer on your friends as they try to cram years of learning into three minutes! When: Tuesday, March 18, 7:00 pm, and Tuesday, March 25, 7:00 pm Where: The Wave What: The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is a skills development activity which challenges thesis-based graduate students to explain their research project to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes. First place wins $200 and a trip to Dalhousie University to compete in the regional 3MT. Second place wins $100. Third place wins $50. The winner will be announced at the end of competition on the evening of the 25th. Students: want to brush up on your presenting techniques before the competition? Dr. Karen Samis, assistant professor of Biology, will lead a crash course on Friday, March 14 at 2:00 pm in room 104 of the K.C. Irving Chemistry Centre.
