The Atlantic Veterinary College requires a permanent, full-time laboratory technician to work in the Central Services support lab.

Central Services is a containment level two laboratory at the Atlantic Veterinary College, 91探花, that provides essential services to internal clients at 91探花, as well as external clients within the Atlantic region. Services provided include preparation of bacteriological media, sterilization services, decontamination of biohazardous waste, and general laboratory support.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparation of bacteriological media for internal and external clients
  • Performing and documenting quality control of prepared media
  • Culture of microorganisms, including animal and human pathogens
  • Operation of autoclaves to provide decontamination and sterilization services to clients
  • Cleaning and preparation of general labware
  • Handling of chemicals and reagent preparation
  • Dispensing laboratory supplies, dry ice, and liquid nitrogen
  • Operation of various types of laboratory equipment such as pH meters, balances, and pipettors
  • Interpretation and documentation of various laboratory controls for verification and validation purposes
  • Assisting clients with general laboratory support

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A two-year diploma in an appropriate discipline and two years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Experience in the culture of microorganisms and aseptic technique
  • Basic laboratory skills such as preparation of reagents and pipetting
  • Ability to multi-task with minimal direction in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with basic computer programs such as word documents, spreadsheets, and Google Docs
  • Ability to work as a team
  • Familiarity with quality control and containment level-two laboratories would be an asset
