The Clark Lab in the Department of Chemistry is looking for a research assistant. The position is in the field of natural products chemistry, and uses a balance of microbiology, and analytical chemistry/instrumentation. In general, the research assistant will be required to work within a team environment, although they should also be able to function independently.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Research Assistant鈥檚 responsibilities will be:

  • Coordination and implementation of research projects
  • Working towards future funding opportunities
  • Drafting reports, correspondence and tracking research progress according to project timelines
  • Aiding in manuscript creation
  • Performing experiments
  • Data analysis
  • Organization of lab spaces and supplies, ie. inventory. acquiring quotes, ordering supplies

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science or Engineering in the realm of biology or chemistry
    • I.e. BSc Biology, BSc Chemistry, BE in sustainable design (focus on bio-resources).
  • The candidate must be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Previous scientific writing experience
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Previous research experience desired:
  • Experience with biological materials
    • Chemical extraction of biological materials
    • Previous biosafety training is an asset
  • Experience with analytical equipment.
    • HPLC-MS/GCMS
    • FTIR
    • Structure determination
    • HPLC
    • Low-pressure chromatography
  • Previous WHMIS training is an asset
