The Department of Student Affairs at the 91̽»¨ (91̽»¨) invites applications for a Manager of Student Culture and Community Standards. The Manager of Student Culture and Community Standards is a key member of the Student Affairs team, providing critical leadership, strategy, and management to the Student Culture and Community Standards, a new unit being developed to address the expanding and increasingly diverse student population. This position leads a team of professional and student staff, focusing on delivering programming and services to support students from underrepresented populations, alongside educational and programming initiatives aimed at fostering a culture of care, listening, and respect across the entire student community. Additionally, the Manager has a vital role in maintaining high community standards by guiding the education and prevention of non-academic misconduct issues through training, awareness campaigns, and individual consultations regarding student conduct matters. They are responsible for overseeing the investigation of reported breaches of student policies, facilitating collaborative sanctioning, engaging relevant committees, and managing alternative dispute processes. When required, they present evidence to the Director of Student Affairs and Services for decision-making and sanctioning. Through these duties, the Manager is instrumental in enhancing student Community Standards, retention, and overall success at 91̽»¨.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Core responsibilities for the position will include:
- Develop and implement programs to enhance student Community Standards (currently supported by three campus-wide policies – Sexual Violence Prevention and Response, Student Code of Conduct, and Fair Treatment)
- Collaborate with various campus departments including the Registrar’s Office, International Student Office (ISO), Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Office, Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office (SVPRO), and academic advising staff to foster a holistic approach to student success and retention
- Oversee the promotion and marketing of diverse campus programs and events, with an emphasis on enhancing supports and sense of belonging for equity-seeking groups
- Contribute to education and programming initiatives regarding substance use on campus, aligned with the alcohol and drug use policy
- Manage staff members in student affairs in the Student Culture and Community Standards unit
- Ensure the enforcement of relevant campus policies and procedures, including the student code of conduct and the sexual violence policy
- Oversee the development and delivery of student leadership training programs.
- Promote positive student conduct and behaviour through outreach efforts, providing culturally relevant presentations and advising
- Develop preventative programs and resources to foster a supportive campus community
- Facilitate workshops on Student Rights and Responsibilities and non-academic student conduct
- Advise faculty, staff, and administrators on developing interventions and programs to mitigate policy violations and meet student needs
- Oversee the investigation and adjudication of complaints concerning violations of the student code of conduct, employing expertise in procedural fairness and student development theory to guide corrective outcomes
- Be part of the team that supports complainants and respondents in matters relating to Fair Treatment and Student Code of Conduct
- Exercise discretion in determining the course of action for complaints, whether proceeding to formal investigation and hearing or pursuing alternative resolution processes such as restorative justice
- Oversee record keeping ensuring accountability and the appropriate balance of transparency and confidentiality in the management of community standards
- Consult with the Director of Student Affairs and other relevant staff on highly complex cases of misconduct, ensuring a coordinated response
- Coordinate respondent support during SVPRO investigations
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor's degree in education, social work, law or a related field; master's level is an asset
- 5 to 7 years of experience working with young adults. Experience with post-secondary education, at-risk populations, or with people causing harm would be an asset
- Experience in student conduct administration, including working with sexual violence policies and procedures
- Lived experience with underrepresented, equity-seeking groups and understanding of the impact of intersectionality for these groups
- Experience in program development, implementation, and expansion
- Event planning, skills, and experience
- Experience and academic advising, counselling, or related areas an asset
- Experience with policy, implementation, and report writing
- Managerial or supervisory experience is essential
- A candidate who enhances the diversity of the Department of Student Affairs would be an asset
