AVC Wellness Facilitator - AVC Dean's Office - Atlantic Veterinary College *Amended*
$60,864 - $67,486 per annum, prorated to term
January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025 (Term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding and departmental requirements)
The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) in collaboration with the Department of Student Affairs at 91探花 is seeking applications from qualified individuals for a Wellness Facilitator. This person needs to be engaging, dynamic, self-starting, results driven and an out-of-the-box thinker who can collaborate with groups on campus. This person will report to the AVC External Engagement Officer with input from the Director of Wellness Programming at the AVC and will work closely with the AVC Associate Dean Academic and Student Affairs. The successful candidate will be an active member of the AVC wellness programming committee by initiating and facilitating activities. This full-time in-person position will operate in the AVC building from 9:00 - 5:30 pm Mondays to Fridays. The AVC Wellness Facilitator will work primarily with AVC students, staff and faculty but will also work closely with the 91探花 Student Affairs Team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Promote, facilitate and coordinate mental health programming and prevention programs for our students
- Meet one on one with AVC students for support, be an academic coach, help coordinate a peer-mentor/counselling program and work on standard prevention programming for our campus community
- The Wellness Facilitator will be tasked with looking at the student experience and our campus life culture to proactively ensure AVC students have the healthiest educational experience possible
- Ensure a holistic approach to student wellness and be competent and comfortable talking about and providing programming around topics which involve the whole student
- Assist with existing outreach efforts as well as develop and oversee new outreach programming for AVC students
- Interact daily with faculty, staff, and students in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital to:
- Understand and analyze the working environment and dynamics in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital
- Suggest strategies to improve the work, well-being, and sense of belonging among employees and students in the VTH
- Assist the AVC External Engagement Officer in the identification and dissemination of achievements and positive outcomes within the VTH
- Understand and analyze the working environment and dynamics in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital
- Be available on-site during operating hours to meet and coach faculty, staff, and students facing distressing situations
- Be available on-site during operating hours to help pet owners process difficult decisions, including euthanasia
- Other related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor鈥檚 degree
- Minimum of three years of experience working with post-secondary students
- Previous experience working with students in professional graduate programs and/or health professionals is an asset
- Experience coordinating and delivering wellness programs for students is an asset
- Experience working one-on-one with students and/or health professionals in crisis is an asset
- Background in leadership is essential
- Demonstrated experience delivering programming to students, such as Bringing in the Bystander
- Ability to maintain a professional and collegial attitude with students, staff, and faculty
- Certificate in Mental Health First Aid is an asset
- Knowledge around alcohol awareness and mental wellness initiatives is essential
- Flexibility of work time is important
- Experience working with a diverse community is an asset
