English as an Additional Language (EAL) Instructors (Up to 2 Positions) - Experiential Education and English Language Centre - Student Experience Hub
$27.47 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay
This competition will be used to staff a variety of 2025 EAL program offerings during Winter EAL customized high school programs and the Spring Explore program. Typical program lengths vary between two and five weeks per program. Please indicate on your application your availability and which program(s) you鈥檙e interested in.
EAL Customized programs (English as an Additional Language) will be offering the Explore Program for Canadian and International students ages 19+ and several short-term high school programs for visiting international groups between January and April 2025. Participants in these EAL Customized programs have formal EAL lessons weekday mornings and organized socio-cultural activities during weekday afternoons, and weekends. EAL Instructors are responsible for the planning and delivery of daily lessons, each week. The English Language Centre (ELC) will be hiring up to two EAL instructors to work in these programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructors report directly to the Explore Program Manager and Manager of Customized EAL Programs. They are responsible for:
- EAL instruction
- Collaborative course design and planning, based on pre-determined weekly themes and ELC guidelines
- Student assessment during the program and summative evaluations of student achievement
- Participation in staff meetings
- Design and lead two to three afternoon educational outings per week
- Creating a positive learning environment
- Upholding the policies of and regulations of the 91探花 English Language Centre
- Other duties as assigned by the above managers
QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.Ed or other degree with equivalent work experience,
- EAL teaching experience
- Excellent oral and written proficiency in English
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Current criminal record check including working with the vulnerable sector
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- EAL teaching certificate / Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language
- Experience working in cross-cultural settings.
- Previous experience with 91探花 Explore or EAL Customized Programs is an asset
