The Department of Student Affairs at the 91̽»¨ (91̽»¨) invites applications for a Personal/Academic Counsellor. This position reports directly to the Director of Student Affairs. 

 RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 Core responsibilities for the position will include: 

  • Provision of short-term personal counselling and, possibly academic advising services to students

 QUALIFICATIONS: 

 A degree at the Masters level, or greater, in Educational Counselling, or related discipline. 

  • Specific expertise and experience in counselling students in post-secondary education is preferred 
  • Candidate must have, or be clearly eligible and willing to obtain, the Counselling Therapist title with the College of Counselling Therapists in PEI (CCTPEI); similar provincial licensure may be considered
  • The ideal candidate will possess a background working with university students in educational development and planning
  • Crisis response training and experience would be valuable to this position  
  • Skills in triage and effective referrals to community resources and managing consultation with medical and psychiatric resources are essential
  • Experience and comfort working with a diverse student population reflecting the reality of today’s campus, including issues of culture, gender, orientation, and equity are required; lived experience in these areas would be an asset
