The Centre for Health and Community Research (CHCR) at the 91̽»¨ is seeking applications for the position of Secure Island Data Repository (SIDR) Database Administrator. The CHCR is a collaborative research centre that brings together researchers and stakeholders from 91̽»¨ as well as universities, health authorities, and government bodies across Canada. The CHCR provides support to faculty members and government and community collaborators on projects dedicated to enhancing health care delivery, policy making, and community wellbeing. To facilitate these objectives, the CHCR has established and oversees the Secure Island Data Repository (SIDR).

SIDR is a research data repository and custodian under the Health Information Act which offers researchers secure access to de-identified administrative health and social data for research and planning purposes. Reporting to the Senior Research Scientist (SIDR Manager), the SIDR Database Administrator will have primary responsibility for receiving, storing, preparing, and extracting administrative and research data. The SIDR Database Administrator will also be responsible for providing services to researchers by creating project data sets, performing statistical analysis and vetting project results. The successful candidate will be an adaptable team player, with excellent data analysis/data management, organizational, and communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and manage databases for housing research data
  • Receive, check, and load data onto the SIDR servers
  • Perform data checks to ensure the integrity and validity of SIDR data holdings
  • Perform data vetting prior to release of research findings outside the secure environment
  • Assist researchers and organizations in preparing data for storage into the SIDR repository
  • Perform data manipulation of large administrative databases
  •  Perform linkage of large administrative databases
  • Oversee SIDR user access permissions
  • Conduct SIDR orientation and training for new data users
  • Conduct analyses of administrative health databases using statistical software (e.g. SAS, Stata, R)
  • Assist with the publication and presentation of research findings
  • Participate in or provide support to relevant working groups within the Maritime SPOR SUPPORT Unit and SPOR Canadian Data Platform as requested by the SIDR Manager
  • Comply with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures pertaining to the collection, use, and disclosure of administrative and research data
  • Preparing reports and other documentation for the SIDR Manager
  • Document work performed using established departmental methods
  • Communicating process changes, enhancements, and modifications – verbally or through written documentation – to management, peers, staff, and other stakeholders so that issues and solutions are clearly understood
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a recognized post-secondary program in a related area (e.g. Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Data Analytics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology; a graduate degree would be considered a strong asset)
  • Experience working with and creating databases is required
  • Experience with data extraction, manipulation, and linkage
  • Experience using statistical software and writing syntax for such programs (SAS and/or Stata strongly preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new statistical software programs as required
  • Excellent organizational skills, and ability to remain productive with competing deliverables and priorities across multiple projects
  • Attention to detail, ability to maintain accurate documentation, and commitment to quality work
  • Ability to appropriately protect confidential data and information
  • A strong commitment to excellent client service and teamwork is a fundamental requirement for this position, along with very strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Knowledge of and experience with basic statistical analysis techniques. Advanced statistical analysis experience would be considered an asset
  • Experience working in a research environment would be considered an asset
  • Experience creating and maintaining records management systems would be a strong asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with others in a respectful and collaborative manner
  • Knowledge of administrative health databases including their content, structure and limitations would be a strong asset
  • Experience using or maintaining data management platforms such as Microsoft SharePoint would be considered an asset
