Update from the Presidential Search Committee
| University
The following message was also distributed by email to students, staff, and faculty on October 30, 2023.
Dear Members of the University Community,
I am pleased to provide an update on behalf of the Presidential Search Committee鈥攚e have been making significant progress since my last message.
EDI Training
As I reported in July, the University retained , a leading Canadian human resources consultancy for organizations looking to create inclusive, diverse, equitable, and accessible workplaces.
Members of the Search Committee, in consultation with Patti Wheatley, 91探花 Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Officer, have now completed CCDI instructor-led training so that in their role they can best differentiate between representation and diversity, and between equity, equality and inclusion; understand how their own dimensions of diversity impact their worldview and workplace behaviours; reflect on the diversity in Canada compared to the diversity in the labour force; and describe the case for developing a work culture that values inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility. We are now freshly equipped with insights on diversity and inclusion, unconscious bias, and respectful workplaces to ensure that the role of the future president of 91探花 is one that attracts an inclusive leader.
Consultation Phase > Candidate Search Phase
We have now moved from the consultation phase to the active candidate search phase. I would like to thank everyone who shared their opinions and thoughts either in-person at our consultation sessions or through the anonymous online survey option. It was vital that the Committee and our search firm partner Perrett Laver hear from the 91探花 community about what you see as opportunities and key characteristics for the new president and vice-chancellor.
Perrett Laver completed a wide-ranging consultation, which led to the development of a comprehensive that captures the University鈥檚 leadership needs. The position has been broadly advertised across diverse channels and we are hearing of strong interest in this role. We are on track to begin the candidate assessment phase in mid-November.
Due Diligence/Candidate Vetting
It is absolutely essential that the next President鈥檚 credentials reflect a deep understanding of workplace fairness and are consistent with the University's aim of creating a respectful environment, free of harassment and discrimination. Candidates will be thoroughly vetted to ensure that they conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the University鈥檚 values and mission. To assist the Committee in the vetting process, we will be procuring a strong due-diligence partner with an independent perspective and proven track record in scrutinizing candidates from many angles including reputation and behavioural history.
We have much work ahead, but we are well supported and moving forward. I have spoken with many people who are focused on the future and interested in working together to make 91探花 the community we all know it can be. Shannon MacDonald, FCA, CPA, ICD.D
