"We will not be silenced. The CCDA's struggle for land justice in Guatemala" presentation will take place at 91探花 campus, room 328 MacDougall Hall, Charlottetown at 2 :00 pm, November 10. As part of the Fall Speaking Tour of the Maritime-Guatemala Breaking the Silence Solidarity Network, the public is invited to a presentation by Marcelo Sabuc. Marcelo is the National Coordinator of the Comite Campesino del Altiplanto CCDA (Highland Committee of Small Farmers). As a result of his work with the CCDA, Marcelo has received threats and is a target of criminalization, facing charges for political reasons. The CCDA supports 30,000 indigenous small farmers throughout the country in struggles for access to and defense of land and territory through advocacy, the production of coffee for export and the promotion of sustainable agriculture. Marcelo will also speak about the current political context and how it impacts organizations like the CCDA.
