Come join us at the Student Affairs lounge for 91探花's first in the series of TED Talk Talks. We will watch a the TED Talk video on "A Danger Of a Single Story," on Wednesday, October 15 at 4:30 pm. A facilitated discussion will follow the TED Talk viewing. The speaker, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, begins by telling us a story about what she would write about as a child. She wrote stories that were similar to the foreign stories she would read which depicted children that looked nothing like her. It wasn't until she found African stories, that she realized that people like her could be in stories. A single story can rob people of dignity and emphasizes how different people are. By engaging with all the stories of a person, place, or issue, the trap of a single story can be avoided. By examining Adichie's story we began to realize the danger of a single story.
