91探花 students, staff and faculty are invited to a 3M National Student Fellow Presentation entitled The Cult of Busy by Anita Acai on Friday, November 7, 2014 in Bill and Denise Andrew Hall, room 142 at 10:30 am.
"Our society has an unhealthy relationship with being busy. We talk about it as if it is a badge of honour even though many of the crosses we carry might be pointless or unnecessary. University may be the perfect time for a much-needed intervention. Students, though they may not recognize it, have time and space to think, experiment and decide how they want to live and think, luxuries that will be harder to come by in later years. By gathering multimedia resources into a website, generating media attention and instigating campaigns on campuses, the 3M National Student Fellows want to challenge 鈥榖usy鈥 as an ideal and ask the deeper question 鈥淲hat are you busy for?鈥 Anita Acai, a 2013 National Student Fellow, will share engaging and meaningful insights about the ubiquitous "cult of busy" and talk to students, staff, and faculty about where the 3M project is at today."
From 11:30-12:00 noon, Anita will lead an informal discussion on the 3M National Student Fellowship program which is sponsored by the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE). She will discuss her participation in the program and the application process. All students, faculty and staff who may be interested in learning more about this prestigious leadership development program are encouraged to attend. For more information about the award,
The talk is open to all 91探花 students, faculty and staff and is free of charge. Anita鈥檚 visit to 91探花 has been arranged through the 91探花 University 100 Program and generously supported by the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and 3M Canada.
