Dear campus community,
I am pleased to announce a search will be initiated for qualified candidates for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Sustainability, Resilience and Island Contexts to be staffed at 91探花.
Islands of the world are being buffeted by global climatic, economic and cultural change. Emigration and resource depletion are decreasing the capacity for economic development, unique cultures are being disrupted by global cultural transformation and sea level rise is threatening the very existence of some small island jurisdictions. At the same time, island peoples and organizations have always been resilient, incorporating novel solutions and strategies to challenging circumstances. The CRC in Sustainability, Resilience, and Island Contexts adopts the islands of the world as living labs, not only to better understand and analyze the interaction of social, economic and ecological forces on sustainability and the resilience of these particular places. The CRC will apply the knowledge gained from these settings to address the questions of sustainability elsewhere in the world.
A CRC Application Review Committee for this opportunity is being convened and I would welcome your suggestions on members for this committee. Please contact me by email (rgilmour@upei.ca) or phone (566-0637).
