Do You Need Transportation of Dangerous Goods Training?
Posting Date(s)
Training is required to carry out these responsibilities:
By ground: A person who handles (see definition below), offers for
transport, or transports dangerous goods must:
(a) be adequately trained and hold a training certificate; or (b) perform
those activities in the presence and under the direct supervision of a
person who is adequately trained and who holds a training certificate in
accordance with the regulations.
Handling is defined as: loading, unloading, or packing dangerous goods
... for the purposes of, in the course of, or following transportation.
Note: it has been clarified that you do not need to have training to unpack
a dangerous good that has already been received by Shipping & Receiving.
WHMIS training covers this aspect.
By air: (IATA regulations) No person may offer or accept dangerous goods
for air transport unless those goods are properly classified, documented,
certified, packaged, marked, labeled, and in the condition for shipment
required by the IATA regulations. Training is required to carry out these
responsibilities.
If you require any of these fields of training, or require refresher
training, please contact Rylie Cole (rcole@upei.ca).
