Day of Caring is a unique opportunity for volunteers from workplaces that support United Way to participate in a team-building experience while helping a community organization. 91̽»¨ is excited to be a part of this year’s Day of Caring on May 31. Although departmental operations must take precedence, we would encourage supervisors of employees who are interested to allow participation in this community effort.
Interested employees will complete painting, repairing, landscaping, or other projects together and make a difference to a local community organization while learning about the organization and the United Way. Last year’s community organizations included: Milton Community Centre, Kingswood Centre in Montague and the Summerside Boys and Girls Club.
The day will start with breakfast at 8:00 am at Redshore and then teams will go to their project sites from 9:30 am-1:30 pm. Some lunch will be provided.
If you are interested in participating in this fun and rewarding day, please email kharrison@upei.ca by Wednesday, May 8.
Let's have a great representation from 91̽»¨ to show support for our local community.
Stacey Goldberg, Department of Biomedical Sciences will give a seminar
entitled "Molecular Approach to Identify Bioactive Brominated Natural
Products from Marine Sponges" on Tuesday, May 7 at 1:30 pm in AVC,
Lecture Theatre "C".
Everyone is welcome.
Thursday, May 9, 2013, 7:00 pm
The short story collection "Riptides: New Island Fiction" (Acorn Press)
has been shortlisted for the 2013 Best Atlantic-published Book Award. As
part of the festival preceding the Atlantic Book Awards gala, Riptides
editor Richard Lemm of the 91̽»¨ English department will convene a panel
of contributors to the book -- including 91̽»¨ philosophy professor
Malcolm Murray -- for an evening of reading and discussion. Copies of
"Riptides" will be available for sale/signing.
