The Master of Arts Island Studies program at 91̽»¨ is hosting a major international conference from July 4 - 9. The Reseau d’Excellence des Territoires Insulaires (RETI), brings together faculty, graduate students and Presidents from 26 international island-based universities.

Islanders who wish to find out more about our long-term water supply in Prince Edward Island – or who have concerns or issues to raise – are invited to attend a special symposium entitled Island Water Futures. This is a public forum event with presentations by Dr. Ryan O'Connor, Dr. Cathy Ryan, and 91̽»¨'s Dr. Michael van den Heuvel. The symposium will take place in the Alex H. MacKinnon Auditorium, room 242 of 91̽»¨â€™s Don and Marion McDougall Hall – beginning at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 20.

Keynote sessions will be taking place in the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre, with breakout sessions being held in Don and Marion McDougall Hall, Main Building, Kelley Memorial building and the Health Sciences building. "Caring for Aging Parents" - May 16, Kelley Memorial Building, Room 211, 1:00-2:00 pm
At some point in all of our lives we will be called upon to provide care for an aging parent, spouse, grandparent, or sibling. Be ready and get informed
with this ​session. Important information will be provided on:
- Safety tips to allow you to stay in your home longer
- How to avoid adverse drug events (the most common cause of hospitalization for seniors)
- Medication management for optimal health and safety
- Falls: Why we fall and how to avoid it
- Mobility aids and adaptions to live with freedom, mobility, and independence

"Managing your Diabetes Risk" - May 30, Kelley Memorial Building, Room 222, 11:00 am-1:00 pm
Over 40? High waist measurement? Family history? You should be screened for Diabetes. Be pro-active and sign up for an appointment for a free Diabetes screening test.

Training is required to carry out these responsibilities:
By ground: A person who handles (see definition below), offers for transport,​or transports dangerous goods must:
(a) be adequately trained and hold a training certificate; or (b) perform​ those activities in the presence and under the direct supervision of a person who is adequately trained and who holds a training certificate in accordance with the regulations.
Handling - is defined as: loading, unloading, or packing dangerous​ g​oods...for the purposes of, in the course of, or following transportation.
Note: it has been clarified that you do not need to have training to unpack a​ dangerous good that has already been received by Shipping & Receiving. WHMIS training covers this aspect.
By air: (IATA regulations): No person may offer or accept dangerous goods for​ air transport unless those goods are properly classified, documented, certified, packaged, marked, labeled, and in the condition for shipment required by the IATA regulations. Training is required to carry out these responsibilities.
​The tentative training dates are the weeks of May 26 or June 2.

Researchers at the 91̽»¨ are looking for volunteers to participate in one of two studies to evaluate the physiological effects of capsaicinoids—the active ingredient in chili peppers. Capsaicinoids are known for their ability to increase weight loss and cardiovascular health while decreasing appetite and pain. The project is looking for non-smoking, healthy male and female participants between the ages of 18 and 45. Participants will be given their test results, as well as $50. All data collected will be confidential and anonymous.
