The Atlantic Veterinary College currently has a male beagle named Roddy available for adoption. He is two years old, neutered, and vaccinated; a dental cleaning will be included with his adoption. Roddy is a silly puppy with a lot of energy and loves to run and play. He loves to play with other beagles and has not shown any signs of aggression. However, Roddy doesn鈥檛 always pick up on other dog鈥檚 social cues, and sometimes other dogs become agitated with his playfulness.
Roddy would thrive in a house with a family that is able to spend a lot of time training and exercising with Roddy. It is preferable that he is placed in a home where the owners are home most of the day. Single-pet and multi-pet households would be considered if it was the right fit.
If you are interested in learning more about Roddy, please contact Melissa Hamel at mhamel@upei.ca or 902-566-0938.

The legal status of islands has increasingly become contested in various parts of the world as a result of the distinction between islands and rocks, and the increasing development of artificial islands. Can international law resolve these issues or just make them more contentious?

Born on the island continent of Australia, he is a graduate of the University of Alberta, and the University of Calgary, and has lived on Vancouver Island and studied islands and the law of the sea for 30 years.

Title: "Evaluation of Longevity, Antibacterial, Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Efficacies of Honey Extracted from Lozenges鈥
Abstract:
Honey is a sweet viscous food product that is popularly used as a natural sweetener, but it also possesses a number of beneficial health properties due to its bioactive components. However, the processing methods used to make honey products, including honey candies (lozenges and drops), result in changes to both chemical and biological properties of the honey. Although rarely investigated in literature, it is valuable to determine how the properties of these honey candies may have changed compared to raw, unprocessed honey. In this study, changes to colour, enzyme (diastase) activity, phenolic/flavonoid content, and hydrogen peroxide concentration were evaluated for processed honey candies. As well, antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and wound healing activities were also determined and compared with raw unprocessed honey. It was found that processing did result in chemical and biological changes in the honey lozenges and drops, but that overall, the natural health properties of honey were maintained, or enhanced relative to raw honey.
