The next deadline for submitting biosafety applications including new applications, renewals, and/or amendments is Friday, October 28, 2022. These applications will be reviewed at the November 17, 2022, meeting.

All research compliance applications, including biosafety application forms, must be submitted through the Researcher Portal. Information about the Researcher Portal, including instructions for using the site, is available at /research-services/forms. Contact researchcompliance@upei.ca if you have any questions about accessing or using the Researcher Portal.

Please note that the IBC has instituted a new category of protocol amendment: biosafety permit minor amendment. This event form is included in the Researcher Portal. Minor amendments that are strictly limited to changes in personnel and/or funding can be submitted at any time but require up to a two-week review period. They are normally reviewed by the IBC chair or designate and the BSO or designate. If the amendment is approved, then an approval notification will be sent to the PI. Submissions via this route may be sent for full committee review at the discretion of the IBC chair and the BSO.

Ethics protocols that involve "more than minimal risk" must be reviewed by the full 91探花 Research Ethics Board (REB). The next deadline for submitting these protocols is Friday, October 28, 2022, for review at the November meeting.

Other ethics protocol submissions, including new applications that do not involve "more than minimal risk"; renewals; and amendments may be submitted at any time. They will be sent for delegated review as soon as all necessary forms are received.

COVID-19 test kits can now be picked up at the 91探花 Health and Wellness Centre, 2nd floor North, W.A. Murphy Student Centre, from 8:30 am--12:00 pm and 1:00--4:00 pm Monday to Friday. On weekends and holidays, you can pick up test kits at Panther Central in the Chi Wan Young Sports Centre.  Students in residence, please talk with your RLA.

The former pick-up location next to Tim Horton's is closed, effective October 14, 2022.

The 91探花 Health & Wellness Centre will offer free flu vaccines on October 19 and 20. The clinics will be held in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre. The vaccines are for all students, faculty, staff, and their families. The clinics will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm, and Thursday, October 20, 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The clinics will be first come, first served. Please bring a provincial health card. For international students who do not have a PEI health card, please bring your student ID.  

Overview: This course will give employees and managers a better sense of how to fully support LGBTQ+ members within the workplace. From discussions around inclusive concepts, terminology, and vocabulary to how to create a fully positive space within the workplace, this course will teach behaviours that can help bring diversity and inclusion into the modern workplace. Diversity and inclusion are essential for building a modern, high-performing workplace!鈥

The Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation in St. Peter's Bay will host a public Open House on Friday, October 21, from 9 am to 4 pm.

From 9:30 to 11:30 am, there will presentations by industry, government, and NGO leaders regarding the effects of climate change on their sectors. Tours of the facility and graduate student poster presentations will take place from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.

The 91探花 Chaplaincy Centre is crocheting a blanket in support of the 67 Blankets initiative, in memory of Nelson Mandela. Blankets are donated to people in need in South Africa.

We will gather to crochet together 11:30 am鈥12:30 pm on Tuesdays, beginning on October 18. Don't know how to crochet? No problem. There will be people to help get you started. All levels are welcome to join.

We are also gathering yarn and hooks to use in the project, if you have a few extras in your stash.

NEW! The Healthy Campus Committee is pleased to announce their support of 91探花 faculty and staff accessing the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre indoor track from November 1, 2022, to April 30, 2023, at no cost. To register, please log into , click on the Wellness (91探花 Faculty/Staff) icon and then on Indoor Track. Please review the information and follow the registration process.

Meditation and Gentle Yoga, Thursdays at noon: 91探花 faculty and staff can sign up weekly for a Meditation and Gentle Yoga class. Individuals must register weekly. The class begins September 15 and will go until December 8.

The Healthy Campus Committee coordinates these initiatives through the 91探花 Employee Wellness Strategy supported by the Joints Benefits and Advisory Committee.

Canadian author, journalist, and historian Gwynne Dyer will give a public lecture titled 鈥淧lanetary Maintenance Engineers: A Last-Ditch Climate Rescue Strategy,鈥 on November 3 at 7 pm in the Duffy Science Centre Amphitheatre (Room 135) at 91探花. He will discuss challenges facing the world because of climate change and explore the concept of 鈥済eoengineering,鈥 or cooling the planet by artificial means.

Mr. Dyer is a respected London-based independent Canadian journalist, syndicated columnist, and military historian. In 2010 he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada. His lecture is presented by the Saint Dunstan鈥檚 University Board of Governors, in cooperation with the 91探花.

All are welcome to attend. Please note that masks are required.
