Campus Notices

The Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare Centre is pleased to share our with you!

It's that time again!  Before I ask anything, let me say "thank you" to the 91探花 community and beyond. Your generosity helps our students in so many ways. Food, funds, gift cards, and coats are only the tip of the iceberg. Your volunteering, your referrals, and your smiles are priceless.

And now for two more opportunities: (1) Thursday, December 15, is our Free Food Chili and Dahl Event.  For more than 25 years, the Chaplaincy Centre has reached out to our students during exams with a free hot meal served by 91探花 staff and faculty.  Free hot food in a friendly environment is a great stress reliever! But we need your support.  Please use for an overview and the volunteer sign-up sheet.

(2) Our 91探花 Campus Foodbank also needs volunteers. Please use to access our January and February 2023 sign-up sheet.

Thanks!  Sister Sue and Lauren

The 91探花 Faculty Association is holding a food drive on November 30 in the W.A. Murphy Student Centre and on December 1 in the Robertson Library breezeway, both from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.

We hope you'll join and help us stock the shelves of 91探花's food bank. Non-perishable items only, please, or gift cards to grocery stores or cash.

Hi everyone, especially new employees and students,

The AVC Veterinary Teaching Hospital has an online pet store () as well as our on-site pet food offerings. This 24/7 service offers a huge selection of food, treats, toys, and supplies for cats, dogs, pocket pets, and exotics. Every purchase supports the next generation of veterinarians. At times, it can be inconvenient for you to shop in person. Our home delivery option is perfect as we prefer that clients have orders shipped directly to their homes.

To facilitate this, we reduced the order purchase amount from $80 to $30 before tax to have it qualify for free shipping to your home. As well, if you sign up for auto orders, you can save 5% on your order.

How does it work? If you haven't already, we invite you to sign up for an account for the AVC myVETstore through this link:

Once you sign up, you can place your order, which will then be processed. You will receive an email letting you know when your order has shipped or is available for pickup. Certain orders that do not qualify for home shipment can still be shipped to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital for pickup.

If you receive the staff/AVC student food discount at the VTH and are not seeing your discount on the AVCmyVetstore website pricing when you sign in, please email avcmyvetsore@upei.ca with the email address you used to sign up.

On Wednesday, November 30, 2022, ITSS will conduct routine maintenance from 8 pm to 12 midnight. During this time, Colleague and my91探花 will be offline.

We encourage students, faculty, and staff who may need documents or links located on my91探花 to plan ahead and bookmark or download the resources they may need during this period.

As a reminder, you can access Moodle directly using

Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good! It is a global movement that inspires people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

Our 2022 Giving Tuesday campaign focuses on supporting the AVC Wildlife Service at 91探花. We are thrilled to share that we have a very generous 鈥渁nonymous鈥 donor who has offered to become our 鈥淢atching Funds Partner鈥!

All donations made on Giving Tuesday designated to 鈥淎VC Wildlife Service鈥 will be matched up to $10,000, doubling your impact!

Every donation helps provide a range of services for wildlife care!

The AVC Wildlife Service provides a valuable educational and public service by treating injured or sick wildlife. In October 2021, a male bald eagle nicknamed 鈥淏uddy鈥, was found on the ground and brought to AVC because he could not stand and had head trauma. By using our diagnostic imaging equipment, veterinarians in the AVC Wildlife Service confirmed a spinal cord injury.

In what was a huge team effort and involved AVC Wildlife, Surgery, Aesthesia, and Radiology teams, the eagle underwent spinal surgery to attempt to relieve pressure on his spinal cord. This surgery, while commonly performed in dogs and cats, has very rarely been performed in birds and never in a bald eagle. For the last year, the eagle has been recovering under the care of the AVC Wildlife Service and the surgery has allowed the eagle to walk and fly short distances.

鈥淲ith wildlife, there are a lot of student-learning opportunities in terms of medical treatments and care, but also for handling wildlife, 鈥渟ays Fiep de Bie, AVC wildlife technician.

Today, 鈥淏uddy鈥 continues to improve and is full of personality.

AVC is extremely grateful for people like you who chose to give back through donations, volunteering, and genuine acts of kindness on Giving Tuesday and throughout the year.

Thank you for considering designating your Giving Tuesday gift to the 91探花 in support of the AVC Wildlife Service.

Donate today by visiting upei.ca/donate or call 902-894-2888.

This is an introductory workshop to research data management for Humanists and Social Scientists. The Tri-Agencies, including the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), require that researchers make their data openly available to the public. What does this mean for Humanists and Social Scientists that don鈥檛 work with traditional 鈥渄ata鈥 and instead work with humans, books, or art? The session will focus on the importance of data management planning. Specifically, we will cover the tools and services available to Atlantic Canadian researchers that can help you better manage your data, enhance the discoverability of your research, and ensure that your valuable research data are preserved for future reuse. Special attention will also be given to managing sensitive data, including FRDR鈥檚 Sensitive Data Pilot Project. This session will be co-facilitated by a data librarian to foster a discussion of the role of research data management in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

On Giving Tuesday, November 29, the AVC Wildlife Service will hold a fundraising event at the Atlantic Veterinary College from 9 am to 3 pm next to the cafeteria. There will be a bake sale, a silent auction, and a raffle with prizes. All proceeds will go toward continuous care for a bald eagle currently in the care of the service and for the construction of an enclosure for it at Hope for Wildlife.

After being hit by a car, the eagle was paralyzed and had ground-breaking spinal surgery at AVC in November 2021. The surgery was successful, and the eagle can now perch and fly short distances. Permanent wing injuries impede the eagle from flying long distances, and therefore it cannot be released into the wild. It will find a home at Hope for Wildlife.

In addition, 91探花 has selected the AVC Wildlife Service as the recipient of donations for Giving Tuesday this year. The AVC Wildlife Service provides care Island-wide to injured, orphaned, and displaced wildlife.

The Charlottetown Christmas Parade will take place on Saturday, November 26, 2022, beginning on University Avenue at Enman Crescent at 5:00 pm. As a result, there will be traffic restrictions at the 91探花 University Avenue entrance, as the staging of the parade walking groups will take place on campus in the W.A. Murphy Student Centre parking lot.

To ensure the safety of parade participants and members of the campus community, the University Avenue entrance will be closed between the hours of 3:30 pm and 6:30 pm. The entrance on Belvedere Avenue will remain open. Please be aware of increased traffic on campus.

The excitement for this Saturday's Gold Rush draw is growing as big as the pot! With no winners in the last six draws, the total pot has grown to more than $8,500, with half going to the winner of Saturday night's draw.

Play today and every week for a chance to win! Download the 91探花 Panthers app from the App Store or on Google Play, or . The weekly draw is held at 8 pm every Saturday.
