The PEI Firefighters Association will be on campus on Thursday, June 16, at 1:00 pm to provide fire extinguisher training to any interested staff members of the campus community. If you have never used a fire extinguisher, this is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience without any danger during fully simulated training.

This event will be held in the outdoor area in front of the Central Utility Building. There will be a 15-20 minute discussion followed by a hands-on simulation!

Please register as spaces are limited due to the hands-on nature of the training. To register, contact Jacky Buell at HSE@upei.ca or 902-566-0901. The registration deadline is June 5, 2023.

The 91探花 Healthy Campus Committee has an employee focus on mental health and wellness initiatives on campus. We are looking for energetic and engaged faculty and staff representatives to assist with planning, promoting, and delivering activities and programs, and communicating information to faculty and staff within the group they represent. Meetings take place three to four times per year along with an annual planning session.

From June 15 to 16, Memorial University will host the 2023 CBIE Atlantic Regional Meeting. This event will focus on the future of international education through a series of breakout sessions, roundtables, and networking activities.

The CBIE Atlantic Regional Meeting is an annual meeting of international education practitioners and is an opportunity to share knowledge, share resources, and keep abreast of immigration and other changes in the sector. This event also serves as an annual networking event for those involved in international education in Atlantic Canada and is a precursor to the national conference each November.

As part of the 91探花 Hearing Conservation Program, audiometric testing will take place on June 9 and 16, 2023 in Kelley Memorial Building, Room 313. These tests take approximately ten minutes to complete. 

It is important, especially in high-volume workplaces, to have your hearing tested annually. All are welcome to attend.

Engineers and scientists use MATLAB to organize, clean, and analyze complex data sets from diverse fields such as climatology, predictive maintenance, medical research, and finance. In this session, we discuss how MATLAB can help analyze and visualize data effectively. Topics include: datatypes and preprocessing capabilities designed for engineering and scientific data; Interactive and customizable 2D and 3D data visualizations; apps and live editor tasks that help with interactive data cleaning, preparation, and code generation; tips and tricks to accelerate code performance; and sharable reports automatically generated from your analysis.

The Honourable Graydon Nicholas, a highly respected Wolastoqey Elder, lawyer, judge, social worker, and activist, will give a presentation titled 鈥淚nculturation in the Indigenous Context and Catholic Church鈥 on Thursday, May 25, at 10 am, in Don and Marion McDougall Hall, Room 242, 91探花.

The lecture is hosted by the 91探花 Faculty of Indigenous Knowledge, Education, Research, and Applied Studies, and the 91探花 Mawi'omi Indigenous Student Centre. The event is free and open to the public. 

Originally from Tobique First Nation in New Brunswick, Nicholas is currently chancellor of St. Thomas University (STU). He served as lieutenant governor of New Brunswick from 2009鈥2014, becoming the first Indigenous person to hold the office. He has a Bachelor of Science from St. Francis Xavier University, a Bachelor of Law from the University of New Brunswick (UNB), and a Master of Social Work degree from Wilfrid Laurier University. In 1991, Nicholas was appointed judge of the New Brunswick Provincial Court. He was the first Indigenous person in Atlantic Canada to earn a law degree and to be appointed a judge. He has received honorary degrees from St. Francis Xavier, Wilfrid Laurier, Mount Allison, and UNB. He has been given numerous awards for his long-standing community service, including the New Brunswick Human Rights Award, the Fredericton YMCA Peace Medallion, the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal, and the Queen鈥檚 Golden Jubilee Medal.

The , administered through the Teaching and Learning Centre and the Robertson Library, is accepting grant applications for the creation or adaptation of open educational resources (OERs). The grant types include

  • Open Textbook Grant: Two grants of up to $6000
    • the development of a new open textbook on a topic that is currently not covered by an existing open textbook; 
  • Open Textbook Adaptation Grant: up to $4,000
    • the adaptation of one or more open textbooks to create a new version or edition of an open textbook (i.e., a Canadian edition of an existing open textbook);
  • Supplementary Resources Grant: up to $2,000
    • the creation of ancillary materials for existing open textbooks, including, but not limited to test banks, slide decks, or interactive media, etc.

The deadline for applications is Friday, May 19, 2023, with work expected to begin during the spring or summer of 2023.
